About Lou Austin

Captain Lou Austin is the originator of the “clicking” popping cork and is an expert in the use of “live” bait in the waters around South Padre Island.

He has documented over 50 speckled trout in the ten-pound range up to a lifetime best of a #12.6oz. as well as redfish up to #50 all on what is regarded as the ultimate popping cork on the Gulf of Mexico.

He has fished on the Lower Laguna Madre and the waters around South Padre Island his whole life and is highly regarded as one of the South Padre Island Fishing charter captains that will catch fish when no one else does.

His creed has always been “Patience my butt, Let’s catch something”.

He really enjoys taking “kids” fishing as there is nothing as satisfying as a youngster with a fish on the pole, but, that does not mean he doesn’t have the capacity to also enjoy the day with a boatload of accomplished anglers.

And has even been known to learn something which he adds to his vast knowledge of South Padre Island Fishing. All in all he lives for fishing the waters around South Padre Island. It is his whole life, and he is blessed to be able to make a living at something he loves to do.

Another passion of Captain Lou’s is writing. He has written fishing columns for many publications. His knowledge of fishing the Laguna Madre and the waters around South Padre Island, combined with his writing, assures those interested in fishing of the best inside tips and local hot spots!
