Chuck Heineman has more or less moved down here staying at least seven months out of the year. His boys came for a visit and of course a fishing trip.Todd, Tom and Tim. Had been looking at the weather all week and the Good Lord shined on us and opened up some fishable weather. Been forecast for a lot of rain and heavy wind but that went north to Houston and all we got was some light drizzle and mist early in the day. The forecast also called for wind in the p.m. gusting to 40- 50 m.p.h. We got the wind but not that much. Started on the westside (getting to know my pattern ? ) caught a lot of smaller trout boxing five good ones and a few throw back redfish, started searching picking up a good trout now and then but still getting covered up with small trout. Moved over to the color line near the drum boat and started to catch more keeper trout and less throwbacks. Finally had enough trout started to think about redfish.Had Tim on the front deck with Todd next to him and Tom and Chuck fishing in the back. (The bet was WHEN Tom would fall off the boat ) Kept moving around and finally Todd boated a redfish at 26-27 inches. This spot dried up so headed to the south edge of Gaswell looking for exposed weedbeds------------------FOUND THEM--- set up a drift and told the guys we would take some redfish out of here and as soon as we got within casting distance of the first bed Todd caught the biggest fish of the trip an oversized redfish a little over 32 inches --tagged --and boxed next a four pound trout went around for another drift and this time Tom caught another red that was a "tournament" fish at 28 inches shortly after Todd missed a bite---think it was a red probably a World Record since we didn't get it Tim caught another trout giving us 15 trout up to 4 pounds and three redfish up to 32 inches----
All in all a pretty good day on the Laguna Madre
